This Cookie Policy explains how CareerBuddy Inc. ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on Jobs by CareerBuddy (the "Service"). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy. By "cookies" we mean cookies and equivalent browser storage such as localStorage and sessionStorage.

What cookies are

Cookies are small files or data entries a site stores in your browser. They let a service keep you signed in, remember your choices, keep the Service secure, and — where you allow it — understand how the Service is used so we can improve it. Some are set by us ("first-party") and some by trusted providers ("third-party").

Your choices and consent

When you first visit, we show a consent banner. Consistent with the EU/UK GDPR and ePrivacy rules, Nigeria's Data Protection Act 2023, and comparable African laws, non-essential cookies (such as analytics) are set only after you agree. We implement Google Consent Mode, so analytics and advertising storage default to denied until you choose "Accept all". Choosing "Necessary only" keeps optional cookies off. You can change your choice at any time via the consent link in our footer, or by clearing site data in your browser. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent because the Service cannot function without them.

Categories of cookies we use

1. Strictly necessary

Always active — required to run the Service and keep it secure. These cannot be switched off.

• Session (Supabase Auth): your session token is stored in localStorage so you stay signed in across visits.
• Consent (bj_cookie_consent): remembers whether you accepted or declined optional cookies, so we don't re-prompt you.
• Security: data used to protect against fraud and abuse and to keep sessions safe.

2. Functional

Remember your preferences to give you a smoother experience.

• UI state: a small amount of interface state (such as theme and last-seen banners) in localStorage, so the app doesn't re-prompt you on every visit.

3. Analytics (optional — consent required)

Help us understand usage so we can improve the product. Set only if you accept.

• Google Analytics 4 & Google Tag Manager: measure page and feature usage using aggregated, de-identified metrics. These run only after you consent, and page views are not sent until consent is granted.
• Sentry (error & performance monitoring): when enabled, sets a session identifier so we can deduplicate and diagnose error reports.

We do not run third-party advertising or cross-site tracking networks.

Third-party providers

Some cookies are set by the providers listed above (Google, Supabase, Sentry). Their processing is governed by their own privacy notices, and where data is transferred internationally we rely on appropriate safeguards as described in our Privacy Policy.

Managing cookies in your browser

Beyond our banner, you can control cookies through your browser settings — block or delete cookies, or clear site data at any time. Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies will sign you out and break parts of the Service. Most browsers explain how in their help pages, and you can also opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser add-on.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as our technologies or the law change. We will post the new version here with a revised "Last updated" date.
